The donks aren't very happy with me at the moment. Not only did they have a visit from the farrier today, but they have spent most of the day shut in the yard. The grass has been growing so fast in the past couple of weeks and they have really been pigging out. Grass to donks is like sweeties and I have noticed that they have gained a bit of weight so I have put them on restricted grazing. This should stop them from getting fat and developing laminitis. Donks easily gain weight because they have a very efficient digestive system because their natural diet, which would be scrubby plants and bushes found on the edge of deserts, is very poor in nutrients. I sometimes wonder if I was a donkey in a former life.
Next week when I have a bit more time I will get the electric fence sorted out and portion off part of the field and for most of the day and they will just have access to that. They will then be given the odd hour on the longer grass.
In this shot I am trying to get them down the hill to the yard after their allotted time on the grass is up. As you can see from Joey Boy's expression, they were not impressed.
I love this photo! I am not sure if processing gives it this surreal quality or just really good camera and lens. He is not happy ! You have a lovely view there! fav
The donkey is obviously not happy-- he wants more of that sweet, green grass! I love the way he's standing there looking glum with a beautiful sunset spread across the sky.
This is such a delightful photo. Gorgeous colors and the sky is soooo beautiful. I also love your description -- I feel like I'm getting to know the donks :-)
