festival fun

Our second day of Cropredy Festival. Here the levellers were playing. They were great fun.

Our group of twelve got to the festival late in the day as we attended the funeral of a lovely lady who lived in our village earlier in the day. Such a sad affair, which after a brief but aggressive illness came as such a shock to everybody who knew her.

Ginny was a 'good' person, who will be missed by so many people. She was an incredibly modest, self-effacing woman, and although I had spent a reasonable amount of time in her company in the ten years we have lived here, it wasn't until hearing the eulogies from her close friends that I learned about many of her accomplishments. I would have loved to have chatted with her about many of them.

In the last few weeks of her life, when she knew she was going to die, she made plans for her funeral and insisted that it should be followed by a party. We tried to remember this and it lifted our spirits at the festival later.

She loved life here, and a lady who lives in the village did the flowers for the church. The day before, she went round to lots of people's houses and took a few flowers from each garden for the display, such a lovely idea, and I think that Ginny would have loved that and the fact that everybody was asked to wear a flower from their garden in their buttonhole.

We saw the Levellers and 10cc at the festival. I was amazed at how many blasts from the past 10cc came up with. Almost every song made me say - 'ooh, I didn't know they did that one', or 'Oh I had forgotten about that one.'

Under the circumstances, fun was had.
A wonderful tribute to your lovely neighbour & she would have enjoyed the festival too no doubt....a great village funeral with all chipping in sounds the way to go!!

How sad but that's a lovely idea for everybody to contribute flowers. I went to see 10CC in about 1982 - and I have a drawing i did of them that they signed - glad they aren't complete losers now.

Sorry about your neighbour: the flowers idea was a lovely one.

I was going to reminisce about seeing the Levellers headline Glastonbury in 1994 and how old that made me feel, but @judithg saved the day!

She sounds like she was a wonderful lady. So sad that we don't know what we have 'til it's gone!
But, it also sounds as if you all honoured her request to celebrate after her funeral. Hard to do.

She would have liked that you remembered her and had fun!
