end of a busy weekend by jantan

end of a busy weekend

Raya - she's twelve now, and really showing her age.

We had a very late night on Saturday as it was our village's 'progressive dinner' where ten couples, us being one of them, hosted a three course dinner in their home and two different couples arrives for each course before leaving for their next venue for the next course.

It is a fun evening, because as a host you don't know who is going to be arriving for each course, and as a guest you don't find out until the end of each course where you are heading off to next, or which other guests are going to be there. We usually host, and it can be a bit stressful because you have to get your timings spot-on because your guests have a very strict timetable to stick to, and you only have a few minutes between guests to get the table, napkins, cutlery, glasses, food etc sorted out. Having done it many times now, we are a well-oiled (usually in more than one sense of the word!) machine.

It was the best turn-out the event has ever had and about £1000 was raised towards the next phase of the re-development of our village hall. It was great to see some families who have recently moved to the village taking part as it is a great way to get to know people.

Our final guests left just before two a.m. and we did a bit of clearing up so didn't get to bed until just before three.

This was the first time that Raya had been allowed to stay home for the evening, we usually send her for a 'sleepover' at my parents' house because, frankly, she can be a complete pain. She jumps up people and takes any opportunity she can to escape if people arriving or leaving don't lock the gate behind them. Now that she is in her thirteenth year she has finally calmed down and this year was very well behaved. She does like her bed though, and the late night meant that she slept nearly all day on Sunday, the lucky thing!
What fun Jan!! Sounds like a wonderful evening. You must have been exhausted on Sunday!! Lucky Raya to have a lie in. She is so sweet. Just look at her claws!! I got the vet to trim Finlay's claws last week, It means taking him out the back and putting a muzzle on him with a nurse holding tight.I don't like to watch. Strangely only two need clipping. Lovely capture of Raya!!

Snap, as you say, Jan! I'm glad you raised so much money and a good time was had - it would be far too frantic for me, my limit is a quiet static dinner for 4! Jinks is also an escapologist - big time!

Sounds a wonderful night if busy! Our old village used to have evenings like this but as far as I can remember the hosts never went anywhere else as they had everyone for one course & then they moved on. Yours sounds much more fun as you don't miss out on the fun yourself. I have no idea when you found time to go for food yourselves! Village life is wonderful!

@happypat We didn't move Pat. We just cooked a three course meal and then different people came to us for each course. It really is good fun to host (so long as you don't get stressed!) and to 'progress.'

What a wonderful furry friend to have.....I bet she was quite a handful when she was younger, and hopefully you will have many years together still now that she has mellowed out!
