The view from the top of our garden this morning. It has been snowing on and off all day, but it isn't really sticking at the moment. Most of the power cables in the village are above ground, which does spoil the view somewhat.
Well isn’t this lovely....I love all the different roofs & the of course a chimney it’s smoke coming out is always a homely look ...sorry Alison....I know you’re right but....fave.
@fueast Alison, this is probably a really stupid question, but I am going to ask it anyway..... I know that wood fires are a problem. Is the problem due to the particulates they release, the greenhouse gases, or both. If it is the particulates, which I remember you mentioning before, is it a problem just in built up areas, or also in areas like this - a settlement of 150 houses with the nearest other settlement being 3 miles away?
@jantan Its both, but from a health point of view particulates. The emission rates are huge. Imagine, 6 diesel trucks on your roof even for a "clean" stove. Its a problem in both cities and rural areas I think. I bet if you monitored in your village on a winters evening you would find pretty poor air quality. Also if you're in a valley, dispersion will be worse.
I really like this, Jan.
And, to stick my two cents in about wood stoves - there is nothing nicer than wood heat in my opinion! But then, our nearest neighbour is half a mile away.
