greater spotted woodpecker by jantan

greater spotted woodpecker

not a very good photograph, taken from some way away and through glass, I have massively over-sharpened it which shows when it is enlarged. This is mainly for diary purposes, but it is the first woodpecker I have seen on our bird feeder. I think it must be feeding babies nearby. The bird feeder is only about four feet away from the patio doors in our kitchen.
Wow, it certainly has its mouth full.

This is great...I've seen woodpeckers on the ground in our garden, but never on a feeder. Well captured!

Great shot - they are such lovely birds and I have been trying to get a shot like this for weeks with no luck. We have two beautiful woodpeckers who come to a feeder at work but unfortunately they are just that bit too far away for me to catch and they are very skittish birds and fly off at the slightest movement. Well done for getting this one so clearly.

Interesting bird feeder! So the woodpecker likes suet?

Certainly looks like it is gathering a mouthful!

It's far better than my woodpecker shot and I was excited about that! They are fab birds. I can't keep up with the starlings at the moment and Nigel is complaining about being deafened in his office - not even photogenic!

What a great capture! It is so good to see him going to your bird feeder. Here's hoping he makes it a regular stop!
