Forsythia Accent on Fence by jbritt

Forsythia Accent on Fence

I tried the accent color feature on my pocket camera for the first time and had fun playing with a my toy, but it will take more practice before I figure out how (or if) I want to use it.

In a photo class at church, I was inspired to read my user manual and discovered many things about my camera. Experimenting is good for learning, but doesn't always yield the best product. I had help from Facebook friends in choosing this photo from my practice shots.
Joan, I learn every day from your experiments, following up with a little research about the technique or strategy you've used or the color or composition results you've obtained. So your own learnings and doings have a demonstrable ripple effect through the 365project medium just as our daily lives spread to impact one another in the shared macrocosm.

This technique looks like lots of fun, and I've seen it used effectively in advertising and commercial photography a great deal recently. My Elph SD4500 hasn't got the Accent Color feature of your S95, but I now know the basics of how to achieve the effect in Photoshop post-processing. I've just switched from a PC to an iMac after 30 years of Windows, and still need to get the Mac version of the software. For now, I'm using iPhoto for simple contrast and color adjustments.

Awesome photo, by the way, the best of the accent color shots you posted, hands down. The simplicity of the shot helps the forsythia color to really pop, as the bright shrubs in the landscape everywhere this week just grab the eye. I get a bright hopeful statement of renewal here, where winter is just a background barrier. Accent colors work well to contrast one condition from another, and, on another level, to stitch them back together again.
