Backlit Girl Dressed Up for Cherry Blossoms at the Tidal Basin
I parked my bike at the Roosevelt Memorial and walked around the tidal basin with my camera on Tues 3/29. It was warm and sunny, and I wasn't the only photographer memorializing the cherry blossoms. It seemed like everyone had a camera and was taking advantage of free pixels. I was just as fascinated with the spectators as with the blossoms themselves. I took plenty photos of the blossoms--they are gorgeous. But I loved watching the people and drooling over some of the camera equipment.
By the time I left, the light was getting low. This girl's backlit hair caught my eye and I took a few photos of her as she played hide and seek with her brother. This is my favorite. It looks almost like she is posing for the camera.
I noticed several girls dressed up for the occasion. It reminded me of getting dressed up for Easter when I was a child.
I took a long time selecting a photo for this date because I had several good options to choose from: my favorite panning shot of a bicyclist, a closeup of cherry blossoms, a postcard shot with the Washington monument reflected on the tidal basin, ducks swimming in the circle garden surrounded by pansies, a close-up male duck, and two women walking down the Jefferson Memorial steps with low afternoon light making them glow. Even after getting help from my Facebook friends, it was still a difficult decision. But I have to take this a little less seriously in the future--just pick a shot instead of agonizing over the choice for over a week.
