Lynn's Backlit Tulips by jbritt

Lynn's Backlit Tulips

Lynn K maintains the TJ garden at the intersection of Irving and S 2nd Street. She spends a lot of time gardening in this public park, and even hauled mulch to this garden from across the county in her bicycle trailer.

On Thursday afternoon, I biked there to photograph the bulbs at their peak. This backlit tulip was my favorite shot.

I met a neighbor, Gene Polk, who was enjoying the garden. I told him that my friend maintains it on a voluntary basis. He is not a gardener and didn't know the names of any plants, but he still appreciates the beauty and enjoys this garden regularly. He sat on the bench and watched my bike while I photographed the flowers. I do not go there very often, but I am also grateful for the time and energy that Lynn puts into this garden.
Absolutely great shot! Wonderful lighting, colors and composition!

I become, I don't know, overwhelmed by the number of flower photos (even my own) that crop up more abundantly than the flowers themselves in the rush of first spring. I'm blasé. Too rarely can a photographer capture the real magic that drew them to shoot the flower in the first place. But you have certainly done that here. I marvel at the way you use light, Joan.
