I photographed the Crystal City 5K race in the rain this Friday evening. I'm entering a contest that covers four weekly races, and this is the last one. I can only enter five photos from the whole series. I missed the third race, but photographed the other three. I'm writing this Saturday night after selecting the entries from the hundreds that I took. I only entered one from this race and it wasn't this one, but I decided to use this for my 365 project because it represents the race.
My entry from this race is a woman in a red dress. The American Heart Association encouraged racers to wear red dresses in support of women's heart health. It was a fun race to photograph with the interesting costumes and the rain.
It was a little scary to use my expensive SLR camera in the rain. Two weeks ago, I saw the professionals protect their cameras from the rain in plastic cases. I used a makeshift plastic grocery bag that week, but this time I was better prepared with a brand-new kitchen garbage bag and two rubber bands. It worked pretty well, but the lens fogged up a bit because it was so humid outside. You could see the runners' breath and it wasn't that cold.
The rain did make some interesting photos, though. I especially like the reflections and splashes. In this photo you can see some spray over the runner's left shoulder.
