Marla's Lantern and Dogwood by jbritt

Marla's Lantern and Dogwood

I didn't spend much time taking photos today since my allotment of photo time was spent processing and choosing entries for the 5K photo contest. But I did bring my camera when I went to pick up a load of firewood from Marla's old house. She sold the house and is clearing it out before settlement. They have no need for firewood in their new place, and she offered it to me.

I was admiring her garden and liked the way the dogwood looked through this lantern. I haven't spent much time in her house, but it is kind of sad to know I will probably never see it again. This photo will remind me of her lush garden.

Bringing home a van full of firewood spurred us to clean up our woodpile. Leslie and I spent the afternoon clearing debris and rearranging the space to accept new wood. I split a few of the new logs and Leslie sawed a few old branches to fit our wood stove--mostly from the the magnolia tree that fell a couple years ago. (I recently posted a photo of the reborn bush.)

The weather was perfect and we both enjoyed working together in the back yard. Very rewarding to see such a big change in a single afternoon.
I love the way you can see your shadow in the lamp post. Really beautiful!
