Dancing at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival by jbritt

Dancing at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival

I took a lot of photos at the Folklife Festival on the National Mall this afternoon. I haven't finished sorting and editing so I'm not really sure if this is the best one. This is in the Motor City tent. The sign blocked by the woman's arm says Rhythm and Blues. The band is called "The Jewels". Their music was great and the dancing was great. I particularly enjoyed watching a man in a wheelchair dance with several different women. He did a great job of leading and they all seemed to have a blast. There were several good dancers. If I didn't have my camera with me, I would have loved to dance with the man in white on the left. He was probably the most talented dancer, but the woman with the red flowered skirt was also a great dancer. And her skirt was very photogenic as it moved when she swirled. I imagine the stage is a whole lot more crowded on the weekends.

This year the festival features Colombia, the Peace Corps and Rhythm & Blues. Here's a link for more info: http://www.festival.si.edu/

I often miss events on the National Mall even though it's just a short bike ride from my house. I have so many things to do at home that it seems hard to take time out to go downtown, but I've never been disappointed. I'm planning to go again tomorrow with my husband. I won't be able to take as many photos, but I'll have a dancing partner.
Amazing capture! You can almost hear and feel the music. An instant fav!
