Philippine Tinikling Dancers

I caught the end of this performance on Thursday and made a point of seeing the whole thing on Friday. My husband Leslie wasn't interested, but I was fascinated. The dancers were amazingly agile and graceful. The Peace Corps volunteer did a great job of narrating.

I sat next to the Peace Corps volunteer's aunt, Leslee. Her name sounds the same as my husband's, but the spelling is different was derived from her parents' names--Lester and Lee.

I got to try the basic steps to this dance and it was a lot of fun. This is the national dance of the Philippines and I found a lot of hits on google but I liked the example at the Folklife Festival better than any videos I found on you-tube.

I have a couple fast shots where I froze the action, but I liked this one better since it shows how fast they are moving.

This may not have been my best shot of the day, but it was my favorite show that day.
