Liquidamber seed pod.

I picked up this seed pod this morning somewhere between the Mapleton Mens shed and the Mapleton shops. It is about 2 cm in diameter and from the Liquidamber tree, specifically Liquidambar styraciflua. Apparently it is also called a Gumball tree in USA, but haven't heard it called that in Australia.
It's quite beautiful!

Googled the tree and this seeds got nothing similar to the trees, so interesting.

@lynnz Yes, nature is always amazing - and especially so wclose up.
@yaorenliu The seed pod is green when it is on the tree. This is a very old one that has dropped to the ground, dried out and shed it's seeds. The liquidambers are a popular garden tree in the cooler parts of Australia for their coloured leaves.
