Heavy wind comes up. It churns up the snow and chases it over the slopes. The sun is swallowed up by the snow whirl. The harsh gusts blow the hard snow crystals into my face. It gets cold and I no longer feel my feet. But I want to reach the edge of the mountain. I cross the glacier and come to the refuge. It is nearly completely covered by snow. Only a tiny part of the gable protrudes. Over the hut roof I do the last steps to the edge of the mountain. Fascinating are the structures and formations of wind-swept snow. It rushes over the rocks and snowcraters like wild mountain water. But it gets very cold and uncomfortable. It is not so easy to take a picture. I am worried that the hard snow crystals are scratching the photolins. Highest time to reverse.
That is glorious! I hope your lens survived all that ice blast! Very Dachstein, still so early in the year to be up so high. Must have been exhilarating.
My goodness Jerome you go through such hardship to obtain your amazingly beautiful images whilst i sit in the warmth of my home to admire them and dream...
your words and images are so elegantly expressive - reading either gives one a true rendition of life in the mountains..
Before I decide for a mountain tour, I study the weather report. Only in good weather conditions one should be hiking and climbing in the mountains, especially if you are alone. The weather change during this tour brought me very interesting natural phenomena. But the risk should be known.
@shepherdmanswife
Thank you very much for your nice comment! Yes, I had dressed warmly. I had very cold feet though. And the gloves I had to take off while taking pictures - this was less comfortable.
@jorlam Thank you, Jorlam, for your so nice comment!
I would like to be able to express myself better in English. I lack security and elegance. I hope very much that my words are at least a basic accompaniment to the pictures.
@cindymc@kerosene Thank you very much for your kind comments!
Sometimes the experience of the frontier is something enriching. However, being alone in the mountains increases the risk. Sometimes the mountain does not give you a second chance.
