retreat

Actually, there is a bright sunshine. But the fierce wind causes this snow storm. The mountain wants to be alone. It is advisable to comply with and leave the mountain.

Dachstein, Upper Austria.
Beautiful.

March 8th, 2017
What an amazing shot. Lovely job with the textures.
March 8th, 2017
has a feeling of timelessness to it. Reminds me of some of the Frank Hurley photos from the Shackleton trip to Antarctica.
March 8th, 2017
Stunning - love the lighting and those textures - choosing the shot with the people walking off was excellent - tells such a story. Fav

This looks like an antique picture. These conditions look pretty harsh, and you captured it so well.
March 8th, 2017
You can just feel the wind and cold by looking at this photo.

March 8th, 2017
Great shot!
March 8th, 2017
What a great series of shots this has been Jerome
March 8th, 2017
Completely agree Jerome. When a mountain gets upset, leave her be.
March 8th, 2017
Awesome image. So much drama and danger here. Fav for me 👍
March 8th, 2017
wonderful!
March 8th, 2017
Wow, what a great shot, I dont think I can do the cold!
March 8th, 2017
I really like this image Jerome - I look at this and really feel that the mountain is a living sentient being. This surely is the essence of landscape photography - creating the same emotion in the viewer as the photographer felt when he took the image.
March 8th, 2017
BRILLIANT, Instant Fav
March 8th, 2017
This is another amazing shot, Jerome! Fav

This so greatly emphasises the feeling of bitter cold.. the retreating figures? i feel an air of resignation but better to return than risk life/limb of self and other.. one cannot fight nature on equal terms - we are so insignificant, as this wonderful image illustrates. again i am awestruck by the immensity of the mountains which you traverse and by your wonderful depiction of it..
Jerome, is that a building, top left?
March 8th, 2017
I want to put my long johns on just looking at this photo! Another gorgeous capture, Jerome. You are the master of landscape photography!
March 8th, 2017
This shot and processing really captured the mood for sure. Great photo indeed!!

How interesting to me that "Retreat" has two meanings! "A Retreat" is a lovely getaway for a delightfully enjoyable outing"! "Retreat!" means, "Get out of here! Being a person who's unstable on my feet, I think I see the latter choice, but admire you and your friends who enjoy this!
March 8th, 2017
The terrain looks very inhospitable and cold - super shot
March 8th, 2017
@Weezilou Thanks for your hints, Louise! Oh God, my English ... Which title would be best - "beat retreat"?
March 8th, 2017
@jorlam Thank you very much, Jorlam, for your kind words - they impress me very much.
You have a very sharp eye: Yes, that is a building, a weather station.
March 8th, 2017
@vignouse Thank you, Richard! Your words are like your pictures: very sensitive.
March 8th, 2017
I like, "The mountain wants to be alone." This is a great shot. It could be out of an old National Geographic.
March 8th, 2017
@jerome Your English is excellent! "Retreat" is a fun choice in this instance, because with the two meanings, some might think of this as a holiday and others might be ready go get out of there!

Wow wow wow!!! I absolutely love this Jerome. This is spectacular and an immediate fav, I couldn't even help myself ;) ... I love your interpretation that the mountain wants to be alone. I know that you are one with it, so you would know.
March 11th, 2017
@kerosene Thank you very much, Caroline, for your nice comment!
For me the mountain is a being that breathes, lives and has a soul. It is something special when I feel close to him.
March 11th, 2017
This is such a wonderful photo of the power of nature and the life of the mountain, against the frailty of man.
March 13th, 2017
@rosiekerr Yes, the mountain teaches something important: the frontier.
March 13th, 2017
