Brimstone larval face

A caterpillar is basically an eating machine. It has powerful jaws, tiny antennae near the mouth which detect smells, spiracles (the white oval shape on the white line) through which it takes in oxygen directly into the blood stream.
It also has 6 pairs of simple eyes, 4 can be seen as raised green dots surrounded by black markings.
The Brimstone (this caterpillar) is one of the easiest to photograph in detail because of its colour. Also because they have a habit of sitting at 45 degrees for prolonged periods.
This is a reversed lens image at f11 using an old Canon 500d

Thak you all very much.. My burst of reversed lens insanity has proved to be popular, a great surprise, much appreciated. Focus tolerance is minimal & I have shaky old hands...
