Two of twelve

Delighted to see 12 Small Tortoiseshells in my garden at once. This is a once very common species which has suffered a great decline in numbers.

One of the things that fascinates me about Brushfooted butterflies is how neutral and “boring-looking” they are on the underside of their wings, while the view from the top is often spectacular. Great capture!

@rhoing I would agree excepting the under wing of Red Admiral which looks like an ancient faded tapestry.
