Guarding Africville. by jgoldrup

Guarding Africville.

One of Eddie Carvery's dogs keep a watchful eye...I think the other one was sleeping. Eddie has been living here in tents and/or trailers for 45 years, in protest of the City of Halifax expropriating land from the mostly black citizens of Africville in the late 1960s. He was born and raised in Africville. This area is now a National Historic Site, consisting of a replica of the village church and, oddly, a dog park. In 2010, the City of Halifax formally apologized for bulldozing the village to make way for industrial development as part of a compensation package.
I'd only read about Africville in the newspaper, so this is fascinating additional information!

It looks like the campers are floating in water the way it all lines up here. Very cool pov. Interesting story.

How nice of the city to apologise for flattening a village!
Glad to see you're still here, posting as sporadically as I am!
