Lovely, i noticed that it was taken at 1/400sec i can't get that sort of speed from my 105mm. what sort of aperture is it? I noticed that all your shots have really been close ups. The bee looks good too

@mirroroflife Hi Pete. The lens I used for both the bee and this shot is the Sigma 105mm macro lens. The widest aperture is f2.8. The foxglove shot was done in quite bright sun. I chose f5.6 to give me some depth of field, ISO 100, and aperture priority. The speed was what was needed for exposure. The bee shot was done using a flash. I chose f16 to give me greater depth of field, and the shutter speed was 1/180 to sync with the flash. I was using a Yongnuo ring flash set on manual power. I think I had dialed in 1/4 power for the shots I was taking while trying to capture the bees. I had tried using extension tubes before I purchased the macro lens. I found them very awkward to use, focusing was hard, and really needed to use a tripod to be able to get the shots set up. The macro lens and ring flash are much more versatile.

Yes I've just started experimenting with mine. I used the one on the camera, must need more practice. I was told you could use the extention tubes on the macro but getting enough light and definitely a tripod
