A memory for those of us of a certain age. This separator was used to separate the cream from the milk after you had milked the cows. I remember turning the handle so that the bell consistently rang, much to the chagrin of those around. One was supposed to turn the handle at a speed to keep the bell from ringing.
Oh yes - this certainly did bring back memories. We lived on a little farmlet until I was 8, and my Dad handmilked 6 cows with a walk through shed. This was how he separated his milk to get the cream. We used to drink the warm skim milk straight from the separator.
@dkbarnett we used to drink the milk from the separator too. I also remember the sour cream that was made from the heavy cream. It was very different from that which one purchases now.
