Mom, recovering by joa

Mom, recovering

I told you I'd like to make this new album of mine more like a diary than a fine art photography album. Which is why I'm posting this.

This is mom. Today, only three days after she had a breast cancer operation. Everything went well and recovery will most likely be complete (the tumor was found at a very early stage and removed promptly), but this May Day was a bit different. I spent it with my parents, just so I could be there, supporting mom. She's doing well, feeling optimistic and good.

We had a lovely day. Did some cooking together and talked a lot. Spent an appropriate amount of time horrified at the snowfall we had this morning! In May! (Fortunately it all melted away quite quickly.)

All of this, for me, is just a reminder of the fact that you never know what is waiting for you tomorrow. Live today to the fullest. And ladies, check your breasts!
Good to see you back. So sorry to hear about the cancer but so glad it was found early! Both my parents had cancer - my father died of colon cancer when I was 16 and my mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer surgery when I was 21. She has been in remission since the surgery and fingers crossed both our mothers stay in remission! ;)

Wishing her all the best for her recovery. :)

@kass So sorry to hear about your dad - but let's really hope moms stay in remission!
@humphreyhippo Thank you! :) I think she's doing quite well, all things considered.

Good thing all went well and it was found early! She looks good considering she had just had an operation, and she looks happy which is also good. I lost my mother quite unexpectadly after a surgery, there were some complications a day before she was supposed to be released from the hospital, I know very well that nothing in this life can be taken for granted. For some reason I have always hated the checking thing, I´m ashamed to admit that I´ve never done that, I have kind of trusted that I will be informed if there´s something unusual. damn I guess I have to start doing that now!

So glad your mom is okay! Nice portrait of her. How scary! I had a mammogram recently and they called me back. I was freaking out. I got a second and also an ultrasound and everything is fine.

@susale So sorry to hear about your mom. :( But even more so, do the checking. I'm even tempted to go and have an early mammogram, just to be sure. It'll be a few more years before I'm old enough for the screenings.
@kwind It was scary, and I'm sure it must've been hellish for you, too. The wait for the results. But I'm glad to hear your results came back ok!
@padlock Thank you. I'm really quite optimistic about mom's situation. It should all be fine. I really do hope so.

@northy A sneaky portrait! :) Mom was doing something by the kitchen sink and I just had to call her name and snap this. :) And yes, I'm really glad everything has gone well. So far so good, at least.

So sorry I'm late to this - my sackcloth is at the drycleaners.
This is such a sweet portrait of your mom. I'm glad to hear the news is good and the horror of the situation hasn't got anyone down. Best wishes to your family, Johanna :)

@louuncouth Hey, no worries. Everybody comes and goes as their schedules allow them, no need for apologies. And thank you, I appreciate your words. We're all staying very positive, as all the signs are as good as can be expected. :)
