OOmphhhh! Ouch!

Tom really hates to have his picture taken and when he saw me with my camera he started to run across the island (in my kitchen not Beaver). He wasn't looking where he was running and slipped on the banana peel. My bad I captured this picture before I helped him up.

Busy day and been up since 2:30 a.m. I took this picture several times and couldn't get Tom in focus 100%. Can anyone tell me why. I would keep trying but like I said beat. By the way my focus point was right on his face.
Great storyline, Joan and a creative composition... but Tom does need to be in focus. The plane of focus is just behind him; given the 34mm focal length (51mm equivalent), I'm guessing that you were just too close to your subject... try backing off a bit.

What a great fun shot Joan!

Lovely storyline Joan. I agree with Richard re the focus. Possibly too close to dear Tom!!

Great shot and funny history , as @vignouse told you, your probably are close as minimum focussing distance of your lens. You should check the distance scale of lens. I see that the bread crumbs a bit far away from Tom, are more focussed being then near minimum focus distance. By the other side, the shutter speed (0.6 sec) is too low for hand held but I thing that you put your camera on the kitchen table acting as steady surface or tripod, then this don't counts. I hope this will help you ;)

@jborrases I did use the "island" as a tripod and also used the timer so I wasn't wiggling the camera. I think maybe my problem is I assume that box in the preview is setting the point of focus. Need to read up on that. I tried moving away but maybe not far enough. Thanks for the help.

@joansmor You are right , on Nikon D90, the red square box is the focuss point on Live-view. They should light in green when the subject is focussed. Because I sold recently my D90 I can't remember how to focuss on "live view", maybe half pressing shutter button or with one of the buttons on the back, around lcd screen ;)

Maybe Tom is a tad out of focus because he was scurrying to get up fast, BEFORE you scrambled to take another picture, rather than help him up? Hmmm?
I realize this isn't helpful as far as the photo problem is concerned but you do sound like you're feeling guilty so I've solved THAT problem!

@jborrases My box did turn green and it was on Tom. See my frustration.

@joansmor i'm sorry but don't worry. Next time try to get more distance from Tom, focussing little far from minimum focussing distance :)

@sharleen SO I can blame it on Tom. I like that and going with that next time. LOL

@jborrases I think I did that this morning on the blueberry pick. Will know better when I up load. THANKS for all you kind advise. Now I don't have to find my camera book.

Funny story. I was/am having the same issue with being too close. I think my sub-conscience really wants a macro lens. :)
