Portland headlight by joansmor

Portland headlight

The Lighthouse by Longfellow is about this lighthouse.
“Sail on!” it says: “sail on, ye stately ships!”
And with your floating bridge the ocean span;
Be mine to guard this light from all eclipse.
Be yours to bring man nearer unto man.
What a lovely building and colours!

Oh, I miss going to Maine's lighthouses. We need to start going to NC's. But, the Portland Headlight was our first lighthouse we went to. Saw a picture of this at Red Lobster Sunday. Ironic that they decorate Red Lobsters with a Maine/sailing theme and there are none in the state of Maine! LOL!

@joansmor Absolutely!

The colour is amazing against the gray sky!! The colours really pop!

So many of our lighthouses don't have the dwellings any longer, great to them here!

This is such a wonderful scene! I have heard that there is a process where people can keep track of the lighthouses they've visited. Beaver Island has two lighthouses and there has been talk of the island getting the requisite stamps for visitors.

@homeschoolmom You know Lisa my sister and I will be driving the NC coast in May when I bring her up to Maine for the summer. Would love any hints of things to see like lighthouses.

@taffy I'm not aware of this but I guess I have always kept track by pictures. I think because there are so many in this area with in a day's ride I don't think of things like this. Just in this park I took another picture of one of coast and up the coast (which means south of here) is Two Lights Park and I have recently put that one in my project for about the third time. Come to Maine - I'd love to show you some lovely lighthouses. Your photo skills and love of architecture would be on a happy tour.
