Been sick most of the week, so other than work haven't seen a lot of people. So I decided I had to do another lovely portrait of myself. Afraid I am not as good at this as my fellow mentee@ktbird. That puzzled look is because I just couldn't get the camera and me lined up well. I'd get tired and move the focal length the long way, etc, etc. This was a lot easier when I had my husband and we were taking a picture of the two of us. I would get him exactly where I wanted and then move into the spot I left for me. But I lean in too much, lean back too much. UGH. But never the less I have completed my get-pushed challenge by @trishaclancy. I should mention this is all nature light from a window to my right side and one to the left behind.
It's lovely Joan, I would have liked just a little light in your other eye. You could set up a reflector on that side to put a little light into the darker side. You did a great job though, selfies are hard to get the focus right but it looks perfect to me.
This is nicely lit Joan - I like the moody style you have created but I confess that I would be happier with 'classic' toning rather than the pinky hue you have chosen. Really pleased that you seem to be well on the mend.
I love your expression Joan. Great shot. Feeling guilty I didn't rise to the challenge. I did take one shot for you that I will upload. I hope you are feeling a lot better
Joan, I should never critique when I'm using my iPad because now that I'm on my computer I can actually see your other eye, the iPad had it totally black.
Just a hint on the focus problem you mentioned. If you focus on the couch, then set the camera or lens to manual focus and shoot in aperture priority with a relatively small aperture, say f7.1 to f 16 you should end up with a well focused image, provided there's enough light so that motion blur isn't an issue due to a longer shutter speed.
@bill_fe Thanks Bill but that wasn't what I meant by focus problem. I mean may be better to say it - an alignment problem. You know cutting of the top of my head or having a tiny me surrounded by lots of nothing. That kind of focus problem. But thanks for the suggestions. I was happy with the focus which wasn't pencil sharp. With all my wrinkles I wasn't looking for that. That could have scared you guys. LOL
I love it! Selfies are so difficult and you really rose to the occasion!! Pardon the pink pun - I wouldn't have noticed it if it hadn't been mentioned already. Did you use a remote shutter? The split lighting is great, I especially like natural light portraits. You should do more of these!!
