This is my second for the season. I am proud of this shot because of one of the things I am working on. That is take the shot that is presented and you are prepared for then try for the shot you really want. This is the shot that presented I didn't get the shot I wanted (no leaves between me and butterfly) because the butterfly flew off. But I got the first shot which a while ago I would not have so maybe I am learning. This guy was in the same park as the cougar.
This is what I would call a great portfolio image - it shows the breadth of your abilities - but other than a stroke of luck, you're never going to match the work of someone who chases butterflies all day. Rejoice when you get a competent shot like this one... and move on.
I think your sister is right- a Great Spangled Fritillary. And it's a good shot! Butterflies are not easy to capture. Sometimes they sit still, and sometimes they totally live up to their name!
