I have been trying to get that silk flowing water look. And unless I am mistaken I have it just a tiny bit here. Not bad considering this is hand held. I might get there yet. So forgive this not so wonderful picture because it is a step forward for me. Enjoy instead my joy in progress.
This is quite lovely Joan. There is a soft "velvetiness" to the water and I like the light on the river. I too have been trying to capture that silky look but have not yet managed it. You are getting very close.
@barbarajdonnellan Hi Joan & Barbara - you can see from the Exif data that you've now run out of 'wiggle room' as you're at 1/2 sec, & F32 at ISO 200. To go further you need some extra help, you need to add a Neutral Density (ND) Filter so that you can extend the shutter speed to several seconds. I use an adjustable one that enables me to focus on my subject and then close the filter down for the shot, at which point you can't see anything through the viewfinder or in Liveview mode. There's a bit of trial and error involved to find a setting that produces a pleasing result... have fun.
@vignouse Thanks Richard. Not buying any new equipment for a couple of weeks but will keep it in mind. Want to take my tripod back to the river I tried it on. See there is a viewing area set up there.
@barbarajdonnellan Richard is one of those wonderful people who will give you help with things you are having trouble with. He has been so helpful to me and he is one of those people who tell me the truth about my pictures.
