Have been looking for a couple of days a photograph for the BW challenge "light and shadows." When I saw that I had indeed caught the light in these flowers I had to try it in bw and liked the results. Thanks again for all your lovely comments. Made walking around Portland taking photos fun trying to find a picture to post.
This is perfect for 'light & shadows' Joan - if I was being picky I would like to have seen a bit more detail in the shadows, but it may well be that the detail is there in your original shot and got lost due to the conversion algorithm that 365 uses. Anyway, a balance composition, nicely done.
When I converted I got some to me off putting light spots. Like someone had spilled something on the picture is best I can describe them. So I removed them by using the healing brush which filled in with dark. To me more pleasing than this spots which were distracting.
Oh, wow, just a really nice capture of the delicate play of light and shadow on these fragile petals. Nice composition, enjoying the more shallow depth of field (which I just learned, so hope I'm using the term correctly). If possible, perhaps a little more b/w bokeh on top, with a higher crop on the bottom to avoid the clipping? But really a special photo...
@gratefulness I have been having so much trouble with dof and focus problems only to learn my camera was set on af-a instead of af-s so now I get that narrower dof so I am just learning to experiment with that. I added light to that closed flower so I might have been able to add more bokeh but I have to admit it didn't occur to me. Just learning PS used PS Elements before and not comfortable with it yet.
It is fun, looking for things to capture, but the BEST part, for me, is the editing :) Amazing what one can achieve with just the click of a few buttons. LOVE this black and white!
This is really nice! It really looks like the three flowers said, hey we'll all have a bit of light, please. thanks. I've actually been going around with camera set on monochrome (just because...). then I'm seeing right away if what I saw was actually light or whether it was color. I'm really surprised at how much difference there is. Don't think I'll do this for very long (love color too much), but it's an experience for sure.
@joansmor You are way ahead of me with manually setting dof and using PS. :) And the light on the closed flower is so artfully applied, it looks wonderful, so soft and subtle. I think I may have gotten a little carried away with myself in acting like I know what I'm talking about! :o Did recently stumble across Photo Shop and Lightroom online the other day, you are so fortunate to be able to access Photo Shop. :)
