“Overseas tourists on holiday were the most likely to drown compared to other subgroups.”
Above quote from Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health

This couple certainly did not read the warning and danger signs posted before they wandered out on the rocks for a photo opportunity. I am maybe incorrectly assuming that this couple are tourists.
And sadly in the late news today (Monday 27 May) it was reported that:
“Two fishermen have died after being swept off rocks and into the water south of Sydney this afternoon.”
Plonkers! Next to a place we often stay, a whole family of parents and two young children were swept away and died. They didn’t drown. The sea threw them back against the rocks as it tends to. People seem to think they are stronger than nature yet they never are. So sorry for the loss of those fishermen. 💔
You know what they say:
"I'm not into killing people, but let's remove all the warning signs and let nature take its course"
I bet that would solve the overpopulation issue.
Fabulous photo! Looks like her dress is wet, already hit by a wave. Love the wave behind them for photo purposes. Very sad about the fisherman. Makes me anxious as my husband and son are avid fishermen, and our little 3and a half year old grandson is already enthralled with it.
It’s a great image. When we lived in Karumba, up in the gulf, there were crocodile signs everywhere, and from our house many a time we watched them slowly swim past. One day we watched as a husband and wife (tourists) were thigh high in the water walking along with a drag net between them, I am guessing to catch bait, just simply could not believe some people are that stupid. Darwin awards definitely apply.
A beautiful capture.
We have the same experience at the Grand Canyon where regularly people walk too close to the edge despite the warming and fall to their death :-(
I agree but not necessarily overseas tourists. We have had quite a few drownings here during the summer and all have been visitors to our area not necessarily overseas ones though but tourists non the less.
One of the drownings was a rock fisherman who wasn't wearing a life jacket.
I hate the thought of people drowning but some people just don't think. I guess it is God's way of sifting out the stupid.
The people I feel sorry for are the helicopter winchmen or water police who have to sift the bodies out of the water. Do they ever get over that experience.
A good friend's son, who was a volunteer with an international mission there in Australia, was swept into the ocean in 2008 by a rogue wave and never found. Incredibly sad!
A lovely shot, but possibly at huge cost. Interestingly there was a feature on local news this evening about river deaths in York, which are rising in number. It seems that many people have lost any respect they ever had for water and its dangers, be it in rivers or the sea.
“overseas tourists, international students, working holiday makers and work-related visitors.“
Thanks for commenting. I watched this couple for a while. I looked for them and saw them get into a car and drive away.

Agreed!! Here’s a list of crazy signs.

Including Warning on a baby stroller: : “Remove child before folding baby stroller.”
Thanks for commenting. Non swimmers etc have no idea what waves can do. Especially freak waves.

It’s a little bit worse than it looks as they are standing on the edge of a ledge 4 or 5 metres high (12 to 16 feet high).
Ian
It take much to be drowned with seas like this.
Thanks.
