March 2017-20 A Trio of Hellebores

This is for JackieR whose iridescent photo of a hellebore https://365project.org/30pics4jackiesdiamond/365/2017-03-18 started a a gardening conversation.

The flower on the right has been fertilised and is developing seed pods. The one on the left is older and the pods are getting quite big like in yours.

If you leave them on the plant to mature, they will split open to reveal shiny black seeds which you can collect or just leave to germinate next winter. Do nothing and you will get lots more!

Like the idea of do nothing!! Another fav!!!

H.orientalis, I believe. I used to grow these from seed when I lived in NW England. Beautiful flowers and beautiful shot.

Thanks. I was pleased with it too. BUT my camera developed a serious problem as I finished shooting.
