El Caimno

The title is NOT misspelled.
This is one of the bells marking the path of El Camino Real, the road created by the Spanish missionaries who established the 21 missions stretching from Mission San Diego de Alcalá in San Diego in the south to Mission San Francisco Solano in Sonoma in the north, between 1683 and 1834.
However, whoever struck this bell, and perhaps others, misspelled "Camino" as "Caimno".
I have wanted to shoot this weathered bell for months now. I drive past it 15 times a day while at work, but have always been way too busy to get a shot. Finally....

Very interesting to me, as I used to teach about the Spanish colonial days. I hope this bell is well protected from theft (so many metal thieves these days). Best wishes to you in 2014, John.

@cejaanderson The bells do not date back from the missions; they were probably put up marking the old road sometime in the 60's or 70's, just guessing at their age, really. They are not protected at all. In fact, they are mostly not even noticed. Except, by me.
