Abuela Paola by jtsanto

Abuela Paola

Has anyone loved another as much as Diego’s abuela loves him? No. No I don’t think so. The fact that an ocean separates these two shatters my heart. Paola was with us for two months in the U.S. when Diego was born. She helped us prepare for his arrival while we were nesting, and then supported us as we began the endeavor of parenting at home. She’s an incredibly caring, thoughtful and kind person whose heart seems immeasurably big. Every time I see her, there’s a twinge of sadness in me that I know it’s only a visit, that I’ll not be able to be in her presence for very long. But this time is doubly hard because seeing the affection between she and her grandson makes our leaving seem almost criminal.
