Medieval Strip Lynchets by julienne1

Medieval Strip Lynchets

Another photo taken on our local Eastfield Nature Reserve where you can see the ancient terraces or "lynchets" on the south facing hill. These terraces weren't exactly constructed, but rather the gradual effect of the land being ploughed over time, the soil being loosened, moved outwards and downwards, and eventually forming level strips of land that were cultivated with steep scarp slopes between.

I've just looked at your project on the month view, and it's lovely to see how the overall colour of each month has become more verdant as winter turns to spring to summer

@christophercox - everything is very green at the moment! It's great to look over the Somerset Levels and see so many lovely shades.

@thewatersphotos - this is taken from the footpath starting in Low Ham and you can walk up through the reserve to High Ham. It's a lovely area of unspoilt land and great for walking and looking at nature when it's left alone ,,,, the only down side is that there are loads of horrible ticks!
