Glastonbury Tor by julienne1

Glastonbury Tor

We had a very pleasant walk to the top today in glorious sunshine. The tower is what remains of a 14th Century chapel of St Michael which was demolished during the dissolution of the monasteries in 1539. The Tor itself would have been an island rising above the flooded Somerset Levels before modern drainage reclaimed the land. It's now a place of pilgrimage for people from a whole range of spiritualities.
Love the sense of space!

Quite a climb to get to the top. I like the fact that this would once have been an island.
