I spent a very pleasant morning watching this lovely pair of Great Crested Grebes displaying to each other, mating, and making final adjustments to their rather meagre and precarious nest. I had planned an early start this morning but when I got up at 5am and saw the rain I nearly gave it up. I was so glad I didn't! Arriving at Ham Wall RSPB nature reserve at 6am I was surrounded by an explosive dawn chorus of birdsong with a delightful background of male Bitterns booming from every direction, From the hide I managed to see two otters swimming, a Barn Owl hunting, Marsh Harriers swooping and soaring, Bitterns flying, Tufted Ducks, Shovellers, Pochard, Teal, Cormorants, Little Grebes, Great White Egrets, Grey Herons, Swans Canada Geese and more as well as the delightful mating display of these Grebes. There was a lot of frenzied activity as always in Spring! Well worth the early start.
