This is a pair of Pochard who seem to have taken over the Great Crested Grebe's nest I pictured here http://365project.org/julienne1/365/2017-04-23 . I don't know whether the grebes managed to hatch their chicks and I couldn't find anyone else at the RSPB site at Ham Wall who had been there over the last week. I saw no sign of young chicks - only older ones who have been hatched for more than a week or two - but they could easily be hidden out of site on this large reserve, So who knows? Maybe the Pochard do - they stayed on the nest for all the time I was there this morning and the female aggressively chased off any other ducks or moorhens who came close. The male just seemed to circle around looking bemused while his mate attacked anything in sight!
