These little caterpillars have just emerged from their silk "tent" in a hawthorn hedgerow. They are quite rare these days so it's good to see a few of these cocoons locally.
Wouldn't fancy them in my garden. We have two white cedar trees and the white cedar moth caterpillars strip it bare and then wander away from the tree to find another meal ticket. The hairs on the caterpillars are poisonous.
