Meadowsweet - Filipendula ulmaria by julienne1

Meadowsweet - Filipendula ulmaria

It's been unbelievably hot here today (we're just not used to it!). The meadowsweet blooming all over the Somerset Levels has been filling the air with its lovely scent. It has lots of common names .... mead wort, bridewort, meadow queen, meadow-wort, pride of the meadow, queen of the meadow, lady of the meadow, meadsweet. It is edible I'm told, with flavours reminiscent of almond and vanilla. It also contains Salicin – an easier to digest version of salicillic acid (aspirin) so it has been used as a remedy for headaches.
Beautiful capture

Beautiful plant. I watched a tv programme yesterday that mentioned meadowsweet and how it had been found in graves dating back to the Bronze Age.
