Bulrush or Reedmace by julienne1

Bulrush or Reedmace

The flowering heads of these bulrushes are just opening. They are interesting because the brown bottom section is made up of the female flowers and the spindly top part is the male flowers. Later on in the year the female part will produce the seeds which are surrounded by a frothy cotton like fluff to disperse them in the wind.
What a fascinating plant! Thanks for the info

Beautiful. Bulrushes always remind me of childhood. Mum used to have them in a vase along with other dried flowers when I was a child.
