Glow worm by julienne1

Glow worm

This is a female glow worm - you can just about see the glowing segments on the underside of her rear end (I had to shine a torch on her to take the photo) . She stays put in the hedgerow or grass verge and glows with a green light to attract a flying male to mate with. Once she's mated she stops glowing, lays her eggs and dies soon after. It's quite an eerie sight seeing their little lights at night at the side of the road. They are very particular about their habitat and I only see them in a very few places around here. I posted a picture of a glow worm larva here in January http://365project.org/julienne1/365/2017-01-09

Cool capture. Interesting information about the worm. We have the lightning bugs here. You see them light up as they fly around. Pretty cool.
