I am so lucky to be close to several RSPB nature reserves in Somerset. They do such wonderful work in creating and maintaining habitats for our wildlife, and giving us such glorious places to visit so we can glimpse them in their rightful environment. This is part of Ham Wall nature reserve which 20 years ago was a rather depressing wreck of a landscape after intensive peat digging. Since then the RSPB has worked wonders by planting reedbeds and managing the water levels to create an environment where some of our rarest birds (bittern, ibis, great white egret, cattle egret, harrier, and a host of others) have now found a home.
