Early Thorn moth - Selenia dentaria by julienne1

Early Thorn moth - Selenia dentaria

There were several of these fluttering outside our front door around the porch light. They hold their wings up over their backs like butterflies although they are definitely moths. They apparently always put in an appearance early in the year but those that hatch out in the summer are usually paler and smaller.
Lucky, lucky you. How wonderful to see several, don't think I've even seen one. Note to self - put trap out if it ever stops raining!
Soon be July and Swallowtail time, mass eclosion of that gorgeous little moth.
