Emperor dragonfly

The warm sunshine today brought out even more dragonflies. This Emporer ( the UK's largest at nearly 8cm) was on duty on the edge of the woods, flying backwards and forwards many times before taking a rest amongst the nettles.

@jesika2 the strange thing is I have seen the most dragonflies on the edge of our local wood a long long way from any water!

@julienne1 Last year I saw 2 oviposit on land - apparantly it's not uncommon. Insects are so very fascinating.
