Cabbage tree

Cordyline Australis... Native NZ Cabbage Tree.. This tree is on our farm and is very old and at the moment is covered in flowers.. Been waiting for a very calm day to go and get a photo.. as you can see today was not that day, but I thought I had best get that photo before the flowers are past their best.. The flowers have a very strong perfume.. Take note on the top of the ridge you can see the 'Cows coming home' for the afternoon milking...
Terrific NZ rural scene. I love the cabbage tree and the lineup of your girls heading home to the cowshed. Nicely done, with the inset of flowers to show us the detail.

Beautiful shot. We had two cabbage trees on our property, but unfortunately, due to adverse seasonal weather a few years ago they both died.

@onewing Yes they seem to have a bit of a habit of giving up the ghost.. but this one is pretty old.. my husband has lived on the farm all his life (65yrs) and it has been here all that time.. has gone through a few stages that it did not look to good but rallied again..

I love the movement in the trees as it tells the story of a windy day. Pretty flowers and I like how you have presented the image within the other image. Where I live it is always windy and our town's name is Aboriginal for Windy Place.

@elaine55 Thanks for the comment.. Windy place sounds like our place should be called... our nearby town has a Maori name and it is Muddy water...

Nice shot. They say if there are lots of flowers on the cabbage tree then it will be a long hot summer. Come on summer!

Looks like it could have been taken on my previous farm! had some very old ones too. Love your capture of the wind - which is all we're having too!

Fabulous clarity and captures, Used to have one bigger than this, but we had a very cold winter a few years ago and it killed all five of my trees, I cut them down but left the roots in the ground, nature as done its thing and they have all started to grow again...Fav

Beautiful shot, and it looks so healthy.

I can see the wind in this shot! The cabbage tree leaves make the wind obvious! Its a really healthy one too! Love that long and patient line of beasts plodding onwards!
