Today was a big day in the farming calendar.. We took the 'Girls' around the road ( 4 klms) to our other block of land where they spend a couple of months on holiday from milking ... they come back when they are ready to calve ready for the season ahead..
It always amazes me that the Girls know the way I guess it helps that there are signs on the way .. first one being the herringbone arrows as soon as they get out the gate.. Lucky we don't have much traffic on this road did not inconvenience too many people ...
Not to much of a problem.. I go ahead with Ute and flashing lights.. farmer George behind on quad.. Use to rope on lots of helpers but the cows seem to know where not to go.. FG did get distracted talking to a neighbor at on stage and the girls took advantage of that by eating the roadside grass.. @jamibann@deeganp
Haha! I have been caught in cattle drives in the mountains where they take them for summer grazing. That is a beautiful picture to see them all traveling together like that. Pretty funny that they follow the signs! ha! fav
I laughed when I read about FG, isn't that just like a man? I really used to hate moving cattle on the main road, I was always on tenterhooks in case they took to,their heels & ran where they shouldn't. Didn't help that we used to move heifers not cows, you in calf cows would hopefully be feeling steady & motherly & not inclined to run. Fave for the memories!
@happypat We also moved the Heifers.. from our other Runoff to home also about 4 k's .. but they behaved themselves .. They just upset the local Alpaca's .. had them (alpacas) running around all over the place ..
