Today as @dide and I were coming home from town we had to do a 'U' turn and get this shot ... Pukekohe is a major market gardening area as it has rich vocanic soils.. in the foreground is mustard ( used as a green manure) the green I think is potatoes, rows of brown is onion ( that have been pulled and drying ready to be bagged) next brown is wheat/barley .. not sure about the top green but possibly potatoes as well... cabbage, cauli, and lettuce are also grown in the area...
So good to see every inch of fertile land being utilized so effectively! Glad that you decided to make a U-turn to catch this!
Thank you for the info on what each layer is. A FAV!
@farmreporter unfortunately the town boundaries are pushing there way out and may not be too many years and this is housing.. seems a waste of good fertile soil...
Unfortunately it is the same the world over. Farmers and developers alike are so blind to the reality of lost farmland. We will all be starving before they admit their foolishness!
