Indian Hawthorn.. by julzmaioro

Indian Hawthorn..

... Rhaphiolepis Indica.. My Indian Hawthorn bush is looking lovely at the moment so thought it deserved a shot. These lovely pink flowers (I have a white one as well) are followed by a black berry which I believe can be used for dying ( as in cloth not your hair or you enemy) and producers a deep purple shade.
You obviously know you plants! An abundance of flowers like an azalea! Berries are good for dying - not hair, not clothes, not wars!

It’s beautiful, I’ve always loved that shrub. Our deep freeze last February killed most of the Indian Hawthornes in our area. I still see many dead ones in landscaping here.

I didn't know the berries were good for dying fabric. My Indian Hawthorne was looking amazing, and then suddenly we have had a few stinking hot days and many of the flowers are drying up in spite of my putting loads of water on it.
