Another of the garden we went to had an automatic bird feeder.. the Doves and Pigeons stood on the plate and the lid rose up so that they could eat the corn and seed.. when the moved away it closed to keep the rain and other animals out.. some of the smaller birds actually got in the feed trough and if not careful got shut it.. but would soon get released when the next dove came to get a feed..
Lovely shot - yes our birds have the same system - they were a bit hungry for a few days until they worked it out! I ended up feeling sorry for them and propped the lid open until their bird brains got the hang of it.
