NZ Wood Pigeon..

I have been trying to capture (with camera) a Wood Pigeon for a long time, but they always seem to evade me.. as we were walking through a bit of native bush yesterday I got swooped upon and nearly got hit.. this cheeky fellow then sat in the titre just in front of me.. with his back to me.. would of liked him to turn around but quite happy with showing the beautiful colours... This Pigeon is pretty big.. 51cm and it's Maori name is Kereru, and can be found all over New Zealand.

We tried to get shots of these guys in the Coromandel, and have a couple of regular visitors to our garden along with Tui and Fantails but they always turn their backs on us. Great shot.

We have lots here , too many but they do have lovely feathers & make a very nice soft cooing noise. Feed catch.

Wow!!!! I have never seen one of these. The bird club I belong to talk about them but I have never been lucky enough to come across one. Beautiful shot and thank you, now I know what they look like :-)

Looks like the ones we have here in our garden in the UK that steal the small birds seed on the bird feeders. Nice shot
