Amanita muscaria, it's that time of year again when we see it. It is an exotic in Australia and NZ. I don't know where it came from originally. It has certainly become famous with its use by artists illustrating story books. We used to have it under our silver Birch Tree. Possums destroyed that tree gradually so no more of this pretty fungus in our garden.
