This is a major landmark of Auckland City .. the Cenotaph stands high on the hill that is part of Cornwall Park.. One of the Cities founding Fathers Sir John Logan Campbell gifted the park to the city of Auckland and he is buried in a crypt by the cenotaph .. There use to be a lone pine tree standing near the top of the hill.. but it got chopped down and has been quite a bit of controversy as to what to replace it with..
I'm always amazed that we haven't heard more about this renegade person that chopped the tree down! Its a volcano and has a great view over Auckland which I love to see when visiting!
